Rock Point School, a small independent boarding and day high school, is looking for a school nurse to join our team! Though our school nurse is a part-time employee, they are an essential part of our staff and we rely on their medical expertise. We are looking for someone who wants to help us guide young people through the challenges of transitioning from adolescence into adulthood.
This is a part-time position, 24 hrs/week. Training hours begin over the summer on a schedule determined collaboratively between the school and the appropriate candidate. Regular hours will begin at the end of August 2025. The position runs on the school calendar, finishing each year in mid-June. Hours are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Exact hours are flexible and can be adjusted based on the right candidate and their availability.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
* Manage medications for students
* Treat students and staff for minor illnesses and injuries
* Educate and communicate with staff about student health concerns
* Communicate with parents and other health providers as needed
* Counsel and educate students about health issues
* Supervise and/or direct the administration of students' specialized health needs
* Be a point person in the morning to check in with students
* Maintain up-to-date health and immunization records for all students
* Stay up-to-date on best practices for schools in terms of illnesses, health alerts, vaccinations, etc., and advise the administration about protocol.
The ideal candidate:
* Holds an earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited program in nursing
* Holds a valid license as a Professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Vermont
* Has experience working with adolescents and an understanding of adolescent development
* Has knowledge of mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression
* Is able to work independently
* Is a creative problem solver
